Nice extension!
I have a request. Can you include a feature to select MULTIPLE pictures and insert ALL of them at once ?
It would be nice if it could show only the filenames(as an option) and let use slect MULTIPLE files and there should be an insert button on the main which inserts ALL.Also there is some problem displaying pictures in a folder. It doesn't show all pics.
Please add this feature, it will be really useful.

Update: I found it. I see a single pixel row which must be the side of the icon for the extension. I clicked on it and the extension opened. Why would the icon be off the side of the fully maximized compose page?

Great extension!!!!
I think it would be GREAT if you could make the window stay open after we select an image or, even better, make the window behave as the contacts one, that stays open on the left of the compose window. In that way it would be just like posting a message on a phpbb forum in example.
Thank you for the great extension!Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 - [11] Submitted by: Mark on Thursday 2nd June 2005 at 06:23 -0400

Excellent!!!!!!At last an image previewer for t/bird.
Found one slight bug......if the image is inserted without using the preview first then the image address is lacking one '/'(two instead of 3)which means the image does not appear if copied and pasted.......
Suggestions.......keep settings between usage....eg folder browsed/thumbnail size......and perhaps a thumbnail cache to speed up when browsing large folders/images.
Large medal deserved for this extension.......Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 - [13] Submitted by: vince on Thursday 30th June 2005 at 10:11 -0400

Hi Ons!
Great extension I often use at work (ahem, well, I do write SOME personal messages while I'm supposed to be working), running the English version of Thunderbird. But mailTagger won't work at home, where I use the French version of Thunderbird. I get the error message:
"Erreur de parsing XM: entité non définie
Emplacement: chrome://mailtagger/content/thumbnails.xul
Numéro de ligne 37, Colonne 18:
"
Installed the English Thunderbird over, and now mailTagger works. Seem to be a matter of locale...

I really like this extension but whereas I can insert the smilies into an email and see them perfectly well, using the Mail Tagger icon appearing in my bar next to the old smiley icon, I cannot SEND them. When testing this and sending it to myself the email arrives empty of any of the images I inserted using Mail Tagger. I've checked my settings and cannot figure out what is wrong with my program.
Thanks for any help you can give on this -- I'd love to be able to use it.

Yep, LoL, sorry that's right =) It's Tb I wanted to say x_X
So ... I tried the 1.2 version and I say: Great! I like the new integration!! Nice idea! Very nice.
BUT I have a major issue: smileys doesn't appear in the "browse" window (categories browser / main window)!
-> the frame is empty! nothing!
I tried all sort of tweak: cleaning my prefs.js, remove the ext. + the directory and reinstall, create again the categories, ... NOTHING seems to work! What can I try to help you and resolve this problem??

Great extension! however I am having a problem with MT 1.2.
Now using TB 1.5beta 1 on WinXP SP2. Not all the smileys appear or can be accessed. The folders for moods, characters and actions are in the extensions library directory and they contain the simleys.
The icon in the toolbar does not look right. When you click on it you can access Browse, Favorites, Signatures and all the sixteen standard smileys.
The characters option lets you view 15 further smileys and lets you also choose the customise option.
Signature displays 1 smiley. The browse option brings up the interface used with MT 1.1 but no smileys display.
Is there a fix for the above that can be implemented?
I have numerous other extensions installed. Is there any known incompatabilities? However they all worked with MT 1.1 and TB 1.0.6.

Using Thunderbird 1.5 beta 1 and mailTagger 1.2, I don't see any images when I click on "the big part" of the toolbar button.
It might be related to the following errors that I'm receiving in Thunderbird's Javascript Console:
Error: setting a property that has only a getter.
Source File: chrome://mailtagger/content/browser.xul.
Line 204.
Line 305.I hope that I'll be able to use this extension because the description of it on this website seems to be exactly what I want. Thanks in advance.

The extension file browser.xul needs:

replacing with:

Thank you very much for this great extension!
A feature request: When Browsing and there are multiple pages of images, I wish that there were some kind of indication in the window to tell me when there is more than one page of images. As far as I know, the only way to determine this is with a click on the dropdown box each time that I change categories).
I realize that I will eventually learn which of my categories contain multiple pages, but I also maintain Thunderbird for some other family members (non-technical people) and I'm afraid that they won't realize when they must advance to the next pages. Thanks for considering.

Using Thunderbird 1.5 RC2 and MailTagger 1.3...
When I try to insert an image directly from the dropdown list, I get a bad image link in the mail message. Checking the image properties, the image location appears like this: "chrome://communicator/skin/icons/smileys/smiley-tongue-out.png"
If I go through the dialog, they insert correctly with a directory and filename as the location info.

TB 1.5, Mailtagger 1.3
Great extension, but... it works with very few themes. For example, with Mostly Crytal, we do not see the standard emoticons. And if we try to add an emoticon, it is impossible to send the message.
I've contacted the Mostly Crystal them developper, and he says he cannot do anything but wait for a Mailtagger upgrade.
I guess the problem is the same with many other themes, so if we can help to solve that, it could be a very good thing for everybody.
Thank you for your great job !Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 - [53] Submitted by: CatThief on Monday 23rd January 2006 at 20:35 -0500

The problem described by the poster of message 52 is this:
mailTagger references image names and locations that exist in the default theme, but not in many other themes. (This includes my own theme, Mostly Crystal, plus all of Aaron Spuler's themes just to name a few.) Extensions need to include all required images inside the extension and not rely on images inside themes. Extensions will break on any theme that does not contain the images that are specified inside the extension. TB 1.5, MT 1.3 / Windows XP Pro / Firefox 1.5
Installed ok, options ok
No way to access when in compose window.
Uninstalled all other extensions prior to install.
Looked for any sign of button, menu, or keyboard command.
Others referred to "Format" toolbar, but I only have "Mail & Status" toolbars.
How do I get it to work?

However on MacOSX, there isn't any button to close the window. I have to force thunderbird to quit in order to close the configuration menu.

Hi! Thanks for a very nice extension!
I've got one request, though: when inserting the 'original' Thunderbird smileys, could the 'alt' attribute be filled, using the 'normal' text smileys?
That way, when people view the text version of the message, they'll still see the text smileys. Thanks again,

Firefox 1.5.0.2 and MailTagger 1.5...
trying to insert icons from the dropdown list (smile, frown, wink, tongue-out, etc.) does not work at all. It shows a blank square, and when you check the properties there is nothing in the link... only the alt text has been filled in.

Just figured it out. Rt-clicking on message body shows
dropdown menu. Click on Insert Image. Go to folder icon
on Mailtagger to browse for an image. When found, click
on it to bring up window with "Insert" in upper right.
Before clicking "Insert", make sure the cursor in the
message body is positioned where you want the image.
Then click "Insert" and image is placed inside mail.
To erase it to change for another, backspacing with the
cursor until it enters the image will erase the image.
Just one question: How should the mail sending options
be configured - plain text or HTML ?Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 - [73] Submitted by: Ray on Wednesday 3rd May 2006 at 21:58 -0400

One more problem: Nobody's receiving the images inside
the message body. Everything looks good at my end, but
only text is received at the other end. Checking the
Java console, it says:-
chrome/mailtagger/content/integration.js - has no
properties. Line 112.
chrome/messenger/skin/messageBody.css - unknown namespace prefix "html" - ruleset ignored due to bad
selector. Line 55.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 - [74] Submitted by: Elmer on Thursday 4th May 2006 at 00:54 -0400

First of all: thanks for MailTagger.
I'm glad to see that MailTagger has been released for Thunderbird 2. But I have a little problem when opening the image browser since when it opens in the sidebar it closes previous opened sidebars, such us the addresses sidebar.
It would be interesting if MailTagger doesn't close other sidebars, or at least (since I understand it needs a lot of room) to restore de panels it closes.Or maybe you could provide an option so that you can use the sidebar method or the old floating window method. I see an option in the image browser that says "Floating window", but it opens de category manager... May be it's a problem of localization, since I have your extension in Spanish, but that option "Floating Window" is shown in Spanish...
Thanks!

Hello Ons Besbes,
Nice plugin ! Thanks !
What would you think about a function() that automatically read a 'root' -directory and then parse every sub-dir(-name). as a new category(-name) in the config ?
Would be nice, not ? (and probably not that complicated) ... i think ...Note: did'nt see before that MT 1.5 for TB 2 is out 'somewhere', so i just edited install.rdf for forcing MT 1.5 for TB 1.5 – 1.5.0.* ... Seem to still working ...
I also noticed that under Linux (xubuntu) the 'images-windows' overwrap the screen if theres many smileys ... I have to use 'alt+left-mouse' to use all my smiley's ... ;)
Other thing : after adding few new rep. i had to close the category windows for every new entry. The both input-boxes for category and path keeped the last entry
... again version for tb 1.5.* FORCED to tb 2 ...in anyway thanks again for the work ;)

Hello
Very nice extension, thanks !
But I can't get the last 1.7 release work, I mean, in a permanent way.
The MailTagger button does not appear in the compose windown after I start TBird.
If I change the extensions settings, then it appears. But when I restart Thunderbird, it is lost again !
That was not the case with MailTagger 1.5 .
Thanks for checking that.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6 - [116] Submitted by: Damon on Friday 3rd August 2007 at 19:18 -0700

Hello,
I have the same problem as Klint. The MailTagger button appears in the compose window only temporarily after I change the extension settings. I have disabled all other extensions and switched to the default theme, reinstalled Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 and MailTagger 1.7 but the problem persists. Any solutions?
Thanks

Just like Klint and Damon, it works if I install it, go in and set the language...but then restarting TB, it's gone and there's a large open area below the status bar in the TB main with what looks like a red triangular symbol to the left. I go in and look at MTgr and when I go to set options, an empty small small dialog pops up, all I can do is close it. I've tried un/re-installing. I also deleted the extension dir and tried it all again. Same results. Happy to try again and supply any other info I can.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as Klint, Damon and Dak with version 1.7 of Mail Tagger in Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 and it persists even after uninstalling and reinstalling the extension. Is there any way to fix this problem once and for all? It's getting to be quite annoying to have to change the settings everytime I want to use the extension.
Thanks,

Same problem-settings are not saved with restart of TB 2.0.0.6-using mail tagger 1.7. Erratic behaviour-sometimes the icon doesn't show up on new message and sometimes it does-behaviour seems to vary with different themes-do you have a theme you recommend using with this? I thought it might be conflicting with 'lightening'-disabled -even uninstalled-but still having the trouble. This is at the top of my list of favourites-hope the bug can be solved. :-|

Same problem expressed by everyone since Klint. I also noticed that putting my computer in F3 standby mode and bringing it back out of "sleep" causes mailtagger to reset and not show up. I reset the options and it works again - until I shut down TB or return from sleep mode.
I do hope this gets fixed soon. Mailtagger is one of my very favorite extensions - and one of the reasons I waited until the last minute to upgrade TB to version 2.

Same here (have to change setting to get the button ...)
with the 1.7 _for TB 2_ (have 2.0.0.6), i did not have this bug with the version for tb 1.5 (that i just had forced via *.rdf ...)I also not be able any more to get Ă floating window nor to drag+drop from the panel (what both worked before, if i click on 'floating window' i get the categories manager by 'check' AND 'uncheck' ... should that be ?)
Finally i also noticed that the panel window (widget) is a 'resize-able' one (resize-symbol on the right-bottom) i can resize the entire window (while resizing the panel ...)
again thks and keep on working ;)

Mail Tagger Not Appearing
(0 Replies)I LOVE mailTagger and was using mailTagger with 1.5 and it worked great. Then I upgraded to 2.0.0.6 and mailTagger automatically updated to 1.7. But it doesn't show up in Thunderbird. I restarted it but it doesn't show up. It is listed in Add-ons, and the extension is there in Application Data\Thunderbird. Uninstalled and reinstalled but it's just not showing up. What am I missing here?

Ok I've sussed it. I found some animated smilies online and saved them to a folder then added them to my favorites. Horray side bar back and tagger button back when I right click. The down side is when I close TB it reverts back. What a pain. I hope a fix comes soon as I can't live without Mail Tagger.

Aggghhh! I hate it when shareware/freeware authors don't support their product. Mailtagger was a great program, and I can't use it anymore. I can coax, cajole, beg and really try to get it fixed, but all the pleas are falling on deaf ears. Could it really be THAT hard to fix ? The big clue is that it works sometimes, and the comments about what it takes to make that happen should be valuable in fixing it.
In any case, I also set aside a directory and use the right click to emulate Mailtagger. It works, but I hate it!

********************************************
IMPORTANT NOTICE
********************************************mT1.7 should work unless there is a conflict with another installed extension or theme or unless the preferences are corrupted because of the update. In the latter case, uninstalling and then reinstalling mT won't change anything as long as you don't delete all mT's preferences as described below:
1. close ALL Thunderbird windows
2. go to your Thunderbird profile folder. In winXP, path should be 'C:\Documents and settings\User\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\'
3. open file named 'prefs.js'
4. delete all entries corresponding to mailTagger then save and restart Thunderbird. If this doesn't solve the problem, please disable all other installed extensions and themes then retry.
Thank you all for your feedback !

Thanks a million! The problem is solved for me as well. Like K I think there must have been a problem with the MailTagger update process why else otherwise would so many people report the same problem? I also think that all of this might have been avoided had you thought of warning your users to uninstall version 1.5 before installing version 1.7 since MailTagger underwent so many changes between the two versions.

Everything is all right again smiley-wise. It must have been a problem with the site the smileys came from.

Installed latest version of mailtagger in latest version of Thunderbird. No icon appeared on the format bar as indicated. I followed the instructions above and deleted all references in the prefs.js file and reinstalled. Still no icon. I disabled all other add ons and restarted and still no icon, so for me, program does not work.

This is a really nice extension to have. I really do appreciate the work that you put into it. Having said that, I would appreciate a way to save favorites so that if we have to do a major reinstall again, it doesn't take forever! I had to completely uninstall mailtagger in addition to deleting the appropriate lines in prefs.js, and then reinstall to get the icon to appear more than just once. I tried deleting all the mailtagger lines in prefs.js EXCEPT for those relating to favorites, but that didn't work. I am not looking forward to having to do this all again on my other computer :-P Here's hoping that we don't have to do this again on the next update! Otherwise very useful/fun.

Good extension, very convenient to use but a little bit long to configure with our own folders of smileys.
MT did'nt worked after a certain version but now it still working since I cleared the prefs.js file as you describe above. Thanks very much for all.

Thanks for posting the response. I couldn't remember how to edit my prefs.js file. so I went to about:config, and I just 'reset' all of the mailTagger entries. It works like a charm again! Thanks ... I love it. Happy Holidays!

This extension doesn't work for Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 (I use Windows Vista).
Is there a chance that you update Mail Tagger for the latest versions of Thunderbird ?

FANTASTIC! Now, if I only had some clue how to add smileys, .gifs, and various images to mT, I'd be totally wowed :)
What file/folder do I save all my 'new find' to, so they show up in mailTagger?
TIA -

Hello,
Have a question in regards to "Mail Tagger 1.7 en-us" I'm finding that when I compose a email using HTML and applying any of the Emoticons they cannot be viewed on Windows Hotmail site or even within "MozillaThunderbird version 2.0.0.9 (20071031)...
Here is a example:
1- compose a new email using thunderbird, addressing it to myself.
2- apply any of the emoticons from the list in Mail Tagger 1.7
3- send email using Thunderbird via"windows live hotmail" server.
4- check my thunderbird email to find it has come and emoticon is as a attachment.
5- go to "windows live hotmail" server to view email, and it's also is a attachment.NOTE:
*Windows XP Home.
Once again all my settings in Thunderbird point to compose/receive in HTML... is there something that I'm missing to do?
Your help would be much appreciated.
